Murphy had opened his mouth to speak about a half dozen times before promptly shutting it. It wasn't out of any respect for the library or study period they were in, but rather because, for once, he wasn't sure what to say. When he finally did speak, it didn't go exactly as planned. "So Harper, prom this weekend. It sounds -- kinda lame, right?"

Harper was only half paying attention to around her, textbook flipped open to a random page, when she heard Murphy speak, eyes flickering up to glance at him. “I guess,” she managed. Even though the girl hadn’t been planning to go, her dad was making her; something about being a normal teenager and that it was healthy to interact with kids her age but she didn’t have anyone to go with and no way was she turning up by herself. "Kind of planning on going though. How about you– Got a date yet, Murph?“
