Good thing she didn’t ask. ❝I ’m not going to ask if you’re fine but– need any help? ❞ she asked, glaring down at the mess of cogs near Raven’s feet, ignoring the impending weight on her chest. None of them were okay; they might not ever be, not after Mount Weather.
Monroe smiled softly over at her, one of her hands still hovering beneath the cup to catch it if it fell. After the cup was lowered she put her hand back down, pulling another blanket around the other girl’s legs.
Monroe was forced to watch as her friends were being drilled into, willing to take any of their places so they weren’t the ones who had to suffer. Maybe that was still the pain of losing Sterling not that long ago talking, but she would’ve jumped on it if it meant saving her friends.
She chuckled softly at Harper, placing her hands back in her lap once she was done fixing the blanket like a concerned mother. “ How are you feeling? “ She asked, tucking one of her legs underneath the other.
Harper managed to offer the start of a weak smile at the girl’s affection, grateful for her assistance. It sure was nice having a friend like Monroe by her side, and it never hurt when friends looked after you.
After Mount Weather, she wasn’t sure she was ever going to see anyone again, the girl in-front of her in particular. The weeks of pain she endured after the event were worth being alive, atleast she had escaped with her life; others probably hadn’t been so lucky. But– The Mountain Men, Maya, they should all burn for what they did, and Harper believed that with every fibre of her being.
Even if they weren’t all bad, that wasn’t good enough. “ Considering everything that happened, I’m feeling okay. ” Eyes peering back up at Monroe, she manage- d to clear her throat. “ You? ”
Harper tilted back the drink, waiting as Monty’s hand touched it ever so slightly as if to assist her. She was still a bit shaky and it didn’t help that she was so sure that if she moved any more, she was going to break like glass; like fragile broken glass.
“I couldn’t—-,” she managed weakly, gaze drifting over to him. The seventeen year-old felt so useless, especially since she could BARELY take care of herself let alone raise a cup to her own lips. “–Thanks.”
“Thanks,” Harper said, moving forward slightly to grasp the item in the other girl’s hands though her grip was loosened and weak. She sipped at the liquid slowly, eyes peering over at Monroe from the top of the cup, thankful for the drink.
After Mount Weather– which was only a few mere weeks ago– Harper had struggled to get out of bed, and between Nathan, Monty and Monroe, they were doing a pretty good job of sharing the care. Even if some days were spent in bed with aching bones, she was still thankful for them being at her side.
“I didn’t know I needed that,” she breathed, cupping the glass in her hands as if to absorb the heat. “Takes like home.” HOME = the Ark. Except, that old floating ship in the sky wasn’t her home anymore; the delinquents were.
Lately, Dr. Griffin had been allowing her to leave during the day to take walks around camp with the aid of crutches. Though she still had to be in the infirmary for most of the day, it was nice to be able to have just a little of her freedom back.
Of course, right now, she was in the infirmary; propped up in one of the beds. It was pouring rain outside, the drops creating a cacophony of sound on the metal casing of the Ark; because of the weather, the good doctor had refused to allow Fox her usual time outdoors, citing that the wet and chill wouldn’t be good for her healing.
So, she was bored, horribly bored.
Slouching in the bed, she groaned, pulling the threadbare blanket up to her chin. She squirmed, flopping around under the blanket until she hit her limit and pain flared up in her injuries and she stopped, burying her face in the pillows.
“ Ouch…”
She was sure the infirmary was there…
Most of the time, Harper trudged about camp with her gun in her hands and an ache in her hips. Clarke’s mother had told her to take it easy– not too work herself too hard, and everyone around camp seemed to listen, mostly because she was a doctor.
They didn’t ask her to do more than her share, and she appreciated that. Especially when she needed a break to go and see her friend, people were willing to jump in and cover her shift so she could.
God bless Nathan Miller.
Harper was visiting; mostly to see Fox but if she saw anyone else in there, she wasn’t going to ignore them. Besides, it had been so long since she had seen her friend—- far too long. Other than Monty and Miller, most of her friendships had broken after their escape from the Mountain Men.
❝Harper, you were…❞ She doesn’t even need to say what happened to the poor girl while she was held captive. No need to bring up words to spark memories, they they would come anyways.
❝If you need anything… if you need to talk, I’m here, okay?❞
❝…❞ Harper doesn’t feel the need to grace the other with words, nor does she manage to find something– anything– to describe how she feels, so she settles on an apology. ❝Thank you—- I might just take you up on that offer some time, yeah?❞
