Oh. She’s actually willing to go, he hadn’t thought she’d
be so ready to pick up and leave EVERYONE. She had
friends, people who cared about her and all he had was a
deep mistrust of everything, but he supposes she sees what
he does in the idea of the ocean; they see POSSIBILITY. He
isn’t an optimistic person but even if the sea held nothing for
them it’s something he wants to see, something he needs to do.

“ If we don’t like it,
  we can always
  come back. “

Sure, some of her doesn’t want to leave, wants to curl up in her
bed, and stick with Monty and Miller for the rest of her days. That
sounds pretty fun; it would be a good life. But the ocean is some-
thing she’s never experienced– it’s foreign. It’s quiet and
SAFE,

especially from threats. From psycho people who want to steal
her bone marrow so they can set one freaking foot outside.

“ We can slip out at
  daylight, make it
  back before dark. “

If they hate it that much, she’ll go home with him. Home. She
feels like she’s never really had one of those (has never had some-
place where she longs to go back to, somewhere to go home to)
but maybe– MAYBE– the ocean can be her home. Salty lips and
sun-kissed skin. God, she could die happy.
